Prof. Dr. Martyn Rawson

Prof. Dr. Martyn Rawson is a globally respected leader in Steiner Waldorf education, with over four decades of experience as a teacher, researcher, and educator trainer. He holds professorships at Alanus University in Germany and National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan and actively contributes to international Waldorf teacher education programs across Europe and Asia.

Born in Glasgow in 1954, Martyn studied English and History before earning an MA and a Professional Doctorate in Education. Since 1979, he has taught in Waldorf schools in the UK and Germany as a class teacher, subject teacher, and high school instructor, and continues to train future educators at prominent institutions such as Waldorf Seminar Kiel and Freie Hochschule Stuttgart.

Prof. Rawson plays a vital and foundational role in shaping the guiding principles and educational vision of Earth School Kuala Lumpur (ESKL). His expertise ensures that ESKL's curriculum reflects the holistic, human-centered philosophy of Steiner Waldorf education while being deeply responsive to the multicultural and contemporary context of Kuala Lumpur. His leadership helps cultivate an inspiring learning environment that nurtures creativity, inclusivity, and future-focused development.

His scholarly work bridges traditional Waldorf pedagogy with current educational theory, focusing on curriculum coherence, assessment for learning, intercultural and decolonizing education, and embodied learning. He has led several Erasmus+ projects, advised key Steiner Waldorf organizations, and contributed to shaping policy at the European Commission level.

Martyn's recent books, including Steiner Waldorf Pedagogy in Schools and Crafting Coherent Steiner Waldorf Pedagogy in Curriculum, provide valuable insights into adapting Waldorf education to today's globalized world. At ESKL, his vision and guidance are pivotal in ensuring the school remains a dynamic, inclusive, and progressive learning community rooted in both tradition and transformation.
