Our Curriculum: Head, Heart & Hand

Learning With Head, Heart and Hands

For us, learning is alive. It moves through thinking, feeling, and doing, so understanding is not only "known", but lived.

Head (thinking) is nurtured through clear ideas, strong images, and meaningful connections, built slowly through stories, observation, and guided discovery.

Heart (feeling) is strengthened through beauty, rhythm, relationship, and a sense of belonging, so children learn with warmth, trust, and engagement.

Hands (doing) bring learning into the body: baking, building, planting, mending. Skills are formed through real work, and confidence grows through practice.

The natural world teaches too: rain and sunlight, the turning seasons, the soil under our feet. These are not just "topics". They are the rhythm of our days, shaping how children learn, remember, and make sense of what they meet.

Receive the children in reverence, educate them in love, and send them forth in freedom.

Sensory

At Earth School Kuala Lumpur, we begin where learning truly begins: in the senses. Waldorf education speaks of twelve senses, not only sight, taste, touch, smell, and hearing, but also the "quiet" senses that help a child feel steady inside: balance, movement, wellbeing, warmth, and the human senses of speech, meaning, and meeting another person.

We prioritise sensory development because it is the foundation of healthy learning. Children learn best when their bodies feel safe, their days have rhythm, and their hands are busy with real work.

How we nurture the senses
  • Movement and balance through climbing, carrying, digging, building, and outdoor play
  • Touch and wellbeing through natural materials, warmth, rest, and unhurried transitions
  • Hearing and speech through singing, storytelling, verses, and rich language
  • Meaning and connection through shared work, kindness, and attentive guidance

In this way, lesson content is not only understood, it is experienced, remembered, and lived.

Classroom Beyond The Wall

Outdoor Play in the Park

Surrounded by nature, children play freely, test their courage, and delight in discovery. These moments of movement, laughter, and connection become lasting memories that nurture confidence, imagination, and a love for the outdoors.

Field Trips

Field trips extend learning beyond the classroom. Through real-world encounters, children build a living relationship with the world. These experiences help them connect learning to life, fostering respect, wonder, and a deeper sense of belonging.

Meeting the Indigenous People

They encounter a way of life shaped by deep respect for nature, community, and tradition. Slowly and quietly, an understanding grows -that there are many wise and beautiful ways of living in harmony with the Earth.
